Giani Zail Singh Engineering College at the Punjab Technical campus was the first technical campus established by the Punjab government. The foundation of this college was by the Excellency of then Governor of Punjab, Sidharth Shankar Ray in 1989. Formerly named as Government Engineering College, Bhatinda got its recent name as Giani Zail Singh Engineering College, Bhatinda in 1992 by Indian Ex-President. The college was made fully autonomous.
Although the college has been recognized as the oldest and the best engineering college in the region, but it is continually striving to flourish its technical education to its utmost excellence. The college requires highly qualified faculties who would dedicate fully for the betterment of the education system in the college. The present chief minister of Punjab, Prakash Singh Badal, claimed his wishes in upgrading the Giani Zail Singh Engineering College at Bhatinda to a University in Punjab.
Badal says that upgrading education system is among his favourite subjects. He says in an interview that,” I will be more than happy if I upgrade this institute into a full-fledged university. With this, Bathinda will have two government universities, the other being the Central University of Punjab”. Prakash Singh Badal also laid the foundation stones of the students’ center and hostel facilities for boys on the technical campus.
Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda was made at constituent college of Punjab Technical University in the year 2011. The upgrade of the college was made to put more emphasis on Doctor Research and Post Graduate Studies. Now its main objective is making it more excellent in educational quality with the help of highly qualified manpower. Case has been appealed to make it a Government University after Central University of Punjab.
Prakash Singh Badal said, “I will not waste even a day to approve it. The bill will be passed in the coming session of the state assembly to grant university status to the engineering college”. He even asked Punjab Technical University to appeal a case for up gradation of the college to the University.
Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda has been recognized as the oldest degree level technical education institute in Punjab. The government established college is controlling the Board of governors headed by the Honorable Ministers of Technical Education, Punjab Government. The campus has a wonderful infrastructure spread about 162 acres. For the last seventeen years, the college has experienced continuous developments.
The college provides its students with excellent facilities like well-equipped laboratories, computer centers, library and workshops. The main mission of the campus is to impart sustainable learning environment for gaining technical knowledge and having practical knowledge and application.
