The education minister of Rajasthan Brij Kishore Sharma was under severe pressure from all the ministers present in the state assembly on Friday. The Rajasthan education board has come under the scrutiny of the ministers of the other departments. There is a severe problem regarding the lack of teachers in many schools. There has been a significant drop in the number of teachers who are teaching in the government schools across the state.
This is a terrible situation to be in. the state of situation in the assembly was not very hostile. The education minister of the state was charged by all the ministers. Not only the opposition but his party members and the ruling part hurled questions at him. There was no escape from these questions. The people in the assembly were so furious with the state of the education that they even went to the extent of asking the education minister to resign from his post.
This issue was brought up by the legislator from the Degana district. The education minister went on dripping into the trap. He made silly comments saying that he was aware of the fact that there were many posts that were vacant in the district schools. What sparked of the major fury was when the education minister said that the lack of teachers did not harm the performance of the students.
There were only 35 out of 100 teachers teaching in that district and the minister never paid attention to this issue. Someone in the assembly suggested that if the minister thought that the students were doing well without 65 teachers then they should get rid of the other 35 as well and it will still not affect the performance of the students of the district.
The education minister tried hard to defend himself by saying that some of these posts have been vacant ever since 2007. This was a completely vague attempt to get things right. The minister of planning in the state said that the school where he studied has only the principal and no other teachers. Even the principal is physically challenged.
There were a lot of requests and applications sent to the education minister regarding this matter. He was asked to fill up the vacant posts. He never paid any attention to these matters. The state needs to take it up seriously and recruit more teachers. The students cannot be deprived of good quality education due to the fault of the minister.
It was also mentioned in the assembly that in the last few years the government has taken a lot of steps to improve the standard of schools across the state but not enough reforms have been made regarding the lack of teachers. Another point that was brought up was that the selection of headmaster was done for the schools but they were not appointed to join. The state government has been delaying the joining of the teachers in the schools.
