The president of India Pranab Mukherjee attended a function on Teacher’s Day. There he spoke very highly about the glorious past that the Education system of the country had. He said that there was a time in India when there were universities like Vikramshila, Valabhi, Odantapuri, Somapura, Takshashila, and Nalanda. Those were the times when scholars from across came to study in India about the culture and heritage of India.
The people who taught in these places created an area of excellence in India. That was the time when the Indian education was at peak position in the world. He said that the country needed to move ahead and gain that same position of educational excellence once again. The peak position has to be achieved with educational reforms. For this to happen the teachers of the country have to take more responsibility.
Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India as an appreciation to the second president of India Sarvepelli Radhakrishnan. It is the birthday of the second president of India who was also a great teacher. On this day the President took the opportunity to honor 378 teachers from across the country. He made the teachers feel special with his speech. He emphasized on the importance of good teachers for the educational progress in the country.
He said that ever since the country received independence the country has done very well in the fields of Science, technology, art, innovation and economic excellence. Even though there has been a lot achieved over the last 66 years still the country cannot be called a developed country. There was something that was missing and that has to be achieved.
He believed in the development of the country. He made it very clear that development did not only mean the industrial growth of the country. Neither would the building of dams, bridges and good roads bring development to the country. If development has to be achieved, it has to be done with excellence in education. Unless there is progress in the education of the country there cannot be development.
He said that it was necessary to make people aware of the importance of education in the country. He feels that every person in the country should be educated. The importance of education in the country should be known b the parent of every child in the country. Every community should be involved in the progress of the country. There should not be any kind of discrimination in the education system.
The education system should be flawless. The teachers should not discriminate between students from different communities of the country. Both boys and girls should be encouraged to pursue education at the highest level. He feels sad to see that the girls are deprived of proper education in many families where as the boys are encouraged to learn more. This thinking should be eradicated from the people of the country to have a proper growth in education.
