Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsman history has ever witnessed. But what makes him stand apart from the crowd is his compassion and down to earth attitude. Not only has he brought unprecedented fame and reputation to the Indian Cricket, but he has also redefined the reputation of a sports person in general. He is exceptionally humble, given the huge fan following he has. Moreover he is extremely loyal to his game, a rare trait nowadays.
Sachin's mother in law Annabel Mehta says his effort for the Education of Slum Children is truly commendable. Annabel is actively associated with an NGO Apnalaya for the past 40 years. During this time Sachin saw her work and also the organization's efforts. According to his mother in law, Sachin is greatly influenced by his father and he is a man of family values. He has been making efforts for the education of school going children in his father's memory.
Being a true sportsman, Sachin could not spare a lot of time from his schedule to visit Apnalaya but he has been helping his mother in law whenever required. He would give bats or tickets for auction to raise money for the poor or guide the NGO to people who could help. He also spoke on behalf of the NGO on many occasions. He even signed to run in the first Mumbai marathon that Apnalaya participated in, but police did not allow him to do so. Sachin's mother in law is proud of him not only because he is a great cricketer but also because he is a fine human being.
It is seldom that we come across a man who is so talented as well as compassionate towards others. The entire nation is in deep sorrow to see the legend retire from what is believed to be truly 'his game'. Every child aspiring to be a cricketer, dreams to be like Sachin Tendulkar one day. I wish every child who dreams to be like Sachin also becomes a human being like him. He has made great contribution to Cricket and made his name unforgettable in the history of the game. But the service he is doing to humanity makes him immortal for mankind.
Let us learn from Sachin's example and be good human beings ourselves. If you can educate even one child, it means a lot to the nation and humanity at large. You would be surprised to find your heart elated too. It is easy to find NGOs like Apnalya and work with them. If you cannot be an active member you can still contribute as and when your schedule permits. There are many programmes where in you can also go and teach children in the slum area. The kids are adorable and you feel the injustice of fate when you see young minds suffering at the hands of poverty and lack of facilities. With our efforts together we can make this world a better place to live.
