Bribing in India happens about twice as much as the global average, according to an index released by an anticorruption group which monitors corruption all over the world wherein the proportion of bribery in India attributed to the countries education is the most. A recent survey revealed that majority of parents and students are rather compelled to pay bribe directly or indirectly to get the best of education within the limited resources available in our country.
Top grade schools and colleges indulge in this practice through their staffs of different grades under various pretext and heads.
Think Tank for solution
Before we can find the answer for the ways of removing bribes from the Indian education system, it is very important to find the actual cause of this corruption. Usually it is seen that there are two causes for the officials to take bribe. For the lower ranked people the reason of taking bribes is the lack of proper pay. With the increasing cost of living these people find it very difficult to meet ends. For the people who are well paid, are also found misusing their authority and position for earning easy and quick money purely due to lack of ethics and conscious. But this is only one side of the coin, on the other side circumstances are rather compelling unfortunate parents and students to indulge in the wrong doing due to inadequate number of good schools n colleges in our country as compared to no. of pass outs every year.
The general perception is that the government is the sole responsible to eradicate corruption from educational system and other sectors as well. But it is not the government alone, the people and the social institutions has to play equal major role in eradicating these pest from our society. Government can only lay stringent laws and be extra watchful in implementation of the same
Pest Control Procedures
The first major step is to put thrust on the improvement of standard of educational institutes as also the teachers should be developed, trained adopting various latest technologies from time to time to remove the monopoly of particular segment of so called A rated schools and colleges. This will give larger option for parents and students. Healthy competition amongst all grades of schools will slowly, gradually help in reducing this problem before it could make big holes in our education system which we may not be able to fill in.
Once the no. of good schools and colleges increases, extra pressure will be eased out and institutes will also start thinking in a rational manner to get good students for them who will brighten the name of their institutes.
To conclude, we should all join hands irrespective of class and grade to stop this corruption and bring in healthy environment both for the students as also the education system that helps to build a strong base of our society.
Anti-corruption classes should be started by the schools to bring about awareness among the children.
Computers should be introduced for all official works so that it can be easily monitored and surveyed.
Active anti-corruption bodies should be developed for detailed and regular monitoring of the working of the educational organizations (Both public and private)
The media has got a very important role to play, coming up with more incidence of bribery so that the government and the judiciary is forced to take strong actions against those found guilty.
