What is meant by the concept of ‘the social unconscious’? What is it trying to capture, and is it a notion that can truly bring sociology and psychoanalysis into dialogue? How is it used in clinical work, and how might it be used in social research? These questions were raised at the ‘Interrogating the social unconscious’ seminar held earlier this year.
As part of a developing conversation around the questions, ‘Interrogating the social unconscious 2’ will take selected readings on the social unconscious (to be circulated in advance) and explore these through invited commentaries and group discussion.
The Sociology, Psychoanalysis and the Psychosocial Study Group is delighted to announce the participation in the event of Earl Hopper, group analyst, psychoanalyst and author of The Social Unconscious: selected papers (2003, Jessica Kingsley) and co-editor of The Social Unconscious in Persons, Groups and Societies: Volume 1 (2010, Karnac), together with Christopher Scanlon, Consultant Psychotherapist and Group Analyst.
The nature of the event means that places will be limited and early booking is strongly recommended.
