About NCCPFCTHE
With the change in time and technology becoming pervasive the dynamics of classroom teaching are changing very fast. In pre-internet days teachers were regarded as storehouse of knowledge but with the advent and spread of internet the order seems to be reversing. Today students being more tech savvy seem to have more information than a teacher could lay hands on. Also, there is a growing tendency among the students to rely more on technology than the traditional resources for learning. Without acquiring adequate knowledge they look for solutions to their problems in YouTube videos and online courses because they do not find classroom teaching up to their satisfaction. Hence traditional classroom teaching at college and university level no more sustains students’ interest. This has often necessitated major changes in classroom practices adopted by teachers. Researchers and educational psychologists have discussed the nature and scope of 21st century classroom and highlighted that a modern classroom must have an invitational environment with mutual respect among teacher and students to facilitate active learning and performance based assessment. The classroom needs to be student centric and it should also facilitate adaptive learning. Teaching and learning should be a collaborative effort. Technology should become an integral part of any classroom transactions, for instance, modern teaching techniques like MOOC should be made essential for maximizing effective teaching and learning.
However there seems to be apathy and lack of awareness on the part of practicing teachers towards the changing scenario in classroom teaching. There is also a necessity for a clear policy on classroom teaching in terms of content, delivery, student engagement and participation, availability and use of technology, evaluation processes, etc. to address the challenging demands of the present day students, maintain the relevance of classroom teaching, and sustain students’ interest in class. Therefore, it is felt necessary to organize a two day convention on Future of Classroom Teaching involving practicing teachers, researchers, and policy makers.
