In this concert MMus conducting student DaÄŸhan DoÄŸu joins Michael Seal to direct a programme with a distinctly exotic flavour,
framed by two delightful folk music suites. Köçekçe, a work full of lively rhythms and memorable melodies, is from its conductor’s native Turkey. Ligeti’s Concerto Romanesc was written in 1951 before he became aware of the post-war developments in Western European music that were to influence him so profoundly. It is nonetheless a wonderfully personal take on the music of Romania.
Justyna Zanko, a student on the Conservatoire's prestigious post-Masters Professional Performance course, will be the soloist in Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1. The programme is completed by Night on a Bare Mountain by Mussorgsky, a work of great dramatic intensity that gained widespread popularity when Walt Disney included it in his wonderful music-film Fantasia.
There will be a pre-concert talk in the Arena Foyer at 6.00pm.
