Speaker: Dr Ben Marsden, Professor Wendy Graham, Mr Mark Paterson - University of Aberdeen
The Special Collections Centre is pleased to support the presentation of the latest in the Stacks Alive series developed by the Aberdeen Humanities Fund.
Stacks Alive has been initiated to offer stimulating, lively and engaging insights into the archives, rare books and manuscripts held with the Special Collections and their use for research by academic staff at the University of Aberdeen.
The event demonstrates the diversity and strength of the collections and their relevance to contemporary academic research.
This latest talk in the series will take Science, Medicine and the Humanities as its themes and includes short presentations by three members of staff at the University of Aberdeen.
Please note that this event has been rescheduled from a previously advertised date of 5 December 2013.
Dr Ben Marsden, Senior Lecturer with the Department of History, will discuss the collections in his capacity as Director of the Centre for History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine. Professor Wendy Graham explores the theme of ‘Local to Global’ in a presentation entitled ‘Building on the legacy of Dr Alexander Gordon’. Prof Graham is Chair in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Co-founder of The Soapbox Collaborative. Finally, we will discover more about the Living Botanical and Medicinal Collections at Aberdeen with Mr Mark Paterson, Curator at Cruickshank Botanic Garden.
