The Sahyadri Sahakari Bank ltd., Mumbai established in year 1968 by late Shri. Namdevrao Anandrao Kadam along with his likeminded associates namely Shri. Baburao Jadhav, Shri. Gulabrao Khopade, Shri. Jaywantrao Chavan, Shri. Vithhal Shinde, Shri. Ganpatrao Jadhav, Shri. Bhausaheb Kadam, mainly from Satara District and nearby areas of Satara District mainly known as area of Sahyadri Mountains. Shri Namdevrao Kadam himself and his all associates were engaged in the activity of Cloth movement in south Mumbai since generations. However all the Mathadies were scattered without any rules & regulations viz. wage structure, working hours, and other benefits such as Provident Fund, Medical facility, Bonus etc. As such in the initial stage they had form "The Cloth Market & Shops Board for Grater Mumbai", affiliated to the Labor department of Government of Maharashtra headed by the Chairman who is the Deputy Commissioner of Labor, Government of Maharashtra. On the formation of this Board all the members who were busy in Mathadi activity and were registered members of the board started enjoying some stability in the form of facilities they were seeking. Thereafter, under the initiative of late Shri. Namdevrao Kadam they formed different societies like " Kapad bazaar Kamgar mandal", "Kapadbazar Kamgar Seva society", Vishal Housing society", at kandivali charkop, Mumbai. All these societies were formed under the major principle "By the Mathadies, For the Mathadies, Of the Mathadies. The prime motto behind the formation of these societies was to help the mathadies who were engaged in the cloth Market and were registered and engaged in the activity of handcart pulling with full load of cloth bell. In short they were working extremely hard by covering almost 15 to 20 K.M. area with fully loaded handcarts, and carrying such heavy loads on their shoulders upto the 5th / 6th floors.
