There was a time when studying in the IIT was a dream come true. May be time has changed since. So much so that a number of seats in the IIT can't find any takers! Close to 80 seats in different courses are still vacant in the IITs after the second round of the in the joint seat allocation process for admissions to IITs and NITs concluded
So far, the institutes have taken admissions for over 99% of the 10,006 seats after the second round. Friday was the deadline for the students to accept the final seats that they have been alloted according to the counselling and their ranks.
A majority of the vacant seats are in IIT-Kharagpur and ISM-Dhanbad, thus indicating the lack of interest among the students for these colleges.
The IIT administration, on the other hand, seemed confident that these seats would be filled up soon in the thrird round of admissions.
