In order to frame clear and detailed guidelines about new colleges, courses, additional divisions and satellite centers, an eight-member committee has been set up by the government. Universities and departments of higher and technical education will new norms set up by this this panel in order to approve new colleges and courses.
According to the reports, Dr. RS Mali, will be the head of the committee. He was also the former vice chancellor of North Maharashtra University in Jangan.
Under the section 81, 82 and 83 of Maharashtra University Act 1994, the norms for sanctioning new colleges, courses, curriculums and additional divisions are specified.
Need for the expert's panel
"Even though norms and guidelines already existed, but, in order to make them stringent and raise the quality of education, the state government needed a panel of experts. As from now, approving new colleges is not going to be simple" said principle of known college in Mumbai and one of the members of committee.
Approval of new colleges was an issue which was hanging for quite a long time.
