An English medium school in Malappuram in Kerala raised a controversy by introducing separate uniforms for the students who are weak and intelligent.
In a country where citizens are taught not to discriminate, the Al Farooque English Medium School at Pandikkad introduced different sets on uniforms in order to separate intelligent students from the weaker ones.
The move from the school triggered outrage among the parents and the students as they felt the move by the school in insulting to everyone.
- White color: Clever students
- Red Stripes: Poor performers
Denying the separation between the students, the school authorities said that a special group was formed in the school only to motivate other students to study hard
"Following this, we made a visit to the school in June to inquire about the matter," he added.
"Two sets of uniforms were introduced by the school in June this year and a section of the students and parents who felt insulted by the move which discriminated among them, approached us with written complaints," Anwar Karaikkadan, convener of the Malappuram district childline committee said in a recent PTI article.
When district childline authorities objected the move, the school withdrew its decision.
Angry at the school's decision, the parents approached the district childline authorities with the written complaints against the school.
