4th November 2014 saw the IILM playing host to the former HRD Minister and a Member of Parliament, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi. The BJP stalwart was invited to deliver the '4th Dr. Kulwant Rai Memorial Lecture'. The lecture on 'Dilemmas of the Modern world' was delivered at the New Delhi situated Lodhi Road campus. This lecture series is dedicated to Dr. Kulwant Rai who is the Founder & Chairman of IILM.
Talking about Dr. Kulwant Rai, IILM's Senior Director, Prof Rakesh Chaudhary, remarked that he had a farsighted vision towards education. He worked tirelessly for the emancipation of the lowest rung of the society. He also laid the foundation of Banyan Tree School in 1986 at Lodhi Road. Prof Rakesh Chaudhary further added that "Today seven Banyan Tree schools are living his vision. in Delhi, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Jagdishpur, Lucknow and Bhopal, lighting up the lives of more than 5000 children. IILM too has grown under his wings from 60 students and one campus in 1993 to 5 campuses, with multiple programs and over 2000 students. IILM Academy of Higher Learning, Greater Noida was inaugurated by Dr Joshi on 4th July 2002."
The lecture by Dr Joshi was centred around the need for peace and happiness in today's world. According to him, sustainable consumption is the backbone of a sustainable development. His lecture also included questions such as "Can there be infinite growth on a planet with finite resources?", "Is current GDP the best measure for growth and development?" He stressed upon identifying the correct parameters to come up with the correct results.
IILM has been organizing the Dr. Kulwant Rai lecture since 2011 and has seen dignitaries such as Prof Vishwanath Pandit, M.N. Krishnamani and Prof Venkatraman.
