The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2018 was released and it was a proud day for the nation as, not only India's Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay, IIT-Delhi and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru found their place in the best 200 global universities but also, DU, for the first time, entered in the first 500 group and was ranked one of the top 10 universities of the nation.
For the first time in the history, 3 institutes from India found their names featured in the top 200 universities of the world and Delhi University's name was featured in the 481-491 band which made it 8th top university of the nation.
About the ranking system
Quacquarelli Symonds, a British company, publishes Quacquarelli Symonds University World Rankings of the universities on annual basis. The company specializes in education and study abroad. In order to rank the universities 6 different performance indicators are used by the company across four areas of - research, teaching, employability and internationalization.
Manipal University from Karnataka was ranked first among the private universities and for the first time the university was named as the 13th best university of the country.
Following performance indicators were used by the Quacquarelli Symonds for the ranking purposes:
- Academic reputation
- Employer reputation
- Student-to-faculty ratio
- Citations per faculty
- International Faculty ratio
- International student ratio
Vice Chancellor of Manipal University H Vinod Bhat said, "Our focus now is to be sub-600 in the 2019 World Rankings. I am certain that we will get there."
