The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra held its convocation on Thursday. Former President A P J Abdul Kalam was invited as the chief guest and awarded the degrees to the students. He also awarded the former director of IIT Kanpur Sanjay Govind and former director of IIM, Lucknow, and Professor Preetam Singh with honorary degree of DLit.
Here he voiced that the dress code of the convocations has been adopted by the British Rule. He advocated the educational Institutes to adopt their own dresses for the event.
He said that the British gowns must be given up and a vow should be taken to have our own dress code for the convocations.
The NIT director Professor Anand Mohan was expressed the Former President's wish to invite him to award the degrees by preparing a different dress code as the convocation dress of the institute next time.
He encouraged the engineering students to work innovatively rather than advocating the usual approach.
He said that the NITs and IITs are reputed institutions and the students passing out from such prestigious institutes should make novel contributions in the research by carrying out innovative experiments.
It is the only way India will gain a place on a global map.
Mentioning the names of various famous scientists he said that people who adopt a different and unique method to do something new are the ones who make history. There is no significance to move on the beaten track.
