Very soon, every state in the nation will host 5 boarding schools for the education of Dalit girls but on condition that state will take over the functioning and funding of these schools after they have been functional for 3 years.
According the reports from TOI, among the educationally deficient blocks of the nation, the worst hit are the communities from the socially weak background, especially if the child is girl.
The proposal suggests that the five schools will be opened in the five different districts of the state where the concentration of SC population is rather larger in comparison to the other areas.
It is also proposed that these schools have 70 percent of the seats reserved for the SC girls and rest of the seats will be open to all other classes such as general classes and OBCs.
The admission will be open to the girls where parents have income of less than Rs 2.50 lakh per annum.
The states which are interested in the scheme will have to take some serious responsibilities to be eligible for the scheme. Center said that beneficiary states will have to take over the complete responsibilities of these schools after the three years of the functioning. States will also have to provide 15-20 acres of land for the establishment of the schools and center will provide the assistance of INR 12 crore initially for the building of school and hostel campus.
