All the candidates aspiring to study in universities/ institutes across the nation like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other premier engineering institutes can now have readily available study material for exam preparation. As per official data, this step from the government has come after seeing more number of suicide cases among students who fail to get admission in top premier engineering colleges of India.
The study material will be virtually provided through media channels like YouTube and three free-to-air TV channels to be launched by Doordarshan, free of cost. As per reports, the launch will be announced on August 15. Regular assignments and tests will be part of the material. An 8 am to 8 pm helpline will also be launched as part of the launch for answering material related queries. There will also be live content streaming for four hours daily over internet platforms and DTH.
A senior government official informed, "Any student can access content any time of the day. The government intends to give equal opportunity to all students to be able to crack IITs without - or with minimum reliance on - the coaching institutes."
Moreover, speaking on this initiative, in a recent Economic Times report, a senior professor at one of the older IITs said, "Right now, it is difficult even for the brightest student to get through IIT without coaching. This initiative will certainly reduce that need."
A minimum number of 10 teachers have been assigned for the project.
Also, the government is putting in efforts to engage more and more teachers from IITs, Kendriya Vidyalayas, retirees and professors
Regular tests and assignments will be conducted online on Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) on the 'Swayam' platform.
Tips and tricks to solve the questions in less time will be shared by Top 100 JEE rankers through the online platform.
A professor who is currently working on this programme said, "This should reduce stress among students who are aspiring for engineering institutes."
