In a big move IGNOU (Indira Gandhi
National Open University, had decided to offer 4 of its courses to the weavers’
family free of cost. IGNOU has chosen 2 villages in western Odisha for this
“The training would be given
under the government’s Unnat Bharat Abhiyan”, said the riginal director of IGNOU
Bhugneshwar, Dr. Abhilash Nayak.
He added the 2 villages namely
Kantapalli of Sonepur District and Sagarpalli of Bargarh District have been shortlisted
to impart the training to the family of the weavers. The training would be
about best and latest practices in weaving. “This will enhance their skills”,
said Dr. Nayak.
“The families would also be
connected with the government offices through information and communication
technology (ICT). They will also be trained on how to use technology for theor
betterment”, he added.
The four courses that would be
offered free of cost are:
Literacy Program (CLP)
Preparatory Programme (BPP)
- NGO Management and
Course on Entrepreneurship
All the families who are interested
in the course would have to enroll themselves at the nearest IGNOU study
centre. All these certificate courses will be completed in six months, said
