An IIT Madras alumnus, Prof Sridhar Tayur launched an
"Institute Chair" in the Department of Management Studies at IIT
Madras while he was at campus this week to deliver a "Leadership Lecture".
The chair is established in the name of 'RAGS Family
Foundation' which has other things to its credit like philanthropic gifts in
the areas of higher education, entrepreneurship, independent films,
microfinance and children's health, development and safety. It is endowed with
an amount of rs 50 lakh.
According to an official release, Dean of International
& Alumni Relations at IIT Madras, Prof R Nagarajan welcomed the chair and
said that IIT Madras has been enjoying continuous support from its alumni. They are valued that's why they contribute
towards the institution.
An "Institute Chair Professorships" have been created
by the Board of Governors of IIT Madras. This is occupied by professors who
have distinguished themselves and have been recognized by their peers for their
research and/or technology development, and who have excelled in teaching and
service to the Institute/ nation/ profession.
These chair professors are appointed for a period of five
years followed by a review and possible extension and are expected to
demonstrate leadership in one or more of their achievements. They also receive

step forward for DOMS'.
The Head further stated that this chair will help the
institute as eminent people would visit for teaching and interaction with
Prof Tayur was happy as he expressed his feelings by saying
that it is a great achievement to be able to endow this chair. He also looks
forward towards collaborating with faculty and interacting with exciting
startups from IIT-M, especially those that also have a social mission.
