Earlier, the Anti-Terrorism Squad of the Rajasthan state had arrested the gang involved in the NEET 2017 exam leak case and now, according to the latest development, they have also arrested the kingpin of the gang from New Delhi. Central Board of Secondary Education conducted the NEET exam on May 7, 2017, Sunday.
NEET exam is a national level exam activity which is conducted by CBSE for admitting students into medical and dental colleges approved by MCI and DCI. This year, a total of 11,38,890 students registered for the exam out of which 1522 were NRIs, 480 were OCIs, 70 were PIOs and 613 were foreign candidates. The exam was conducted in 10 different languages, at 1921 exam centers which were spread across 103 cities.
Uma Shankar Gupta (42), the alleged kingpin of the paper leak gang, was arrested by the police form his Jasola Vihar residence in Delhi. This is the sixth arrest which police had made in this case so far.
"Gupta, a habitual offender, had earlier duped several people in the name of providing question paper of the medical entrance examination. He is based in Delhi and had established links in other states to operate his gang. He was earlier arrested in 2006, in Shimla and in 2015, in Telangana, in connection with examination paper leak case," ATS SOG Inspector General of police, Umesh Mishra said, adding that the accused would brought to Jaipur and produced before a court.
