From the new academic session, for the first time in the nation, Engineering would be taught in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh. This fact was confirmed by a senior official who said that from now own during the admission time the students will asked to fill the preference for the studying medium for engineering courses.
According to the reports, students and teachers were found scratching their heads for finding the translations of tech terms like surface tension, osmosis etc. Not only this, but there are no tech books available in Hindi and students are doubtful about the decision as they are not sure if the multinational companies will prefer a student who has studied engineering in Hindi.
Criticism for the decision
The decision received criticism from senior educationists, which said that this will be huge step back and will risk the career of the engineering graduates as they will get no additional benefit of the Hindi during the placement drives.
"There is no point in teaching engineering subjects in Hindi when books are available only in English. How do you translate technical terms, anyway?" asked a professor.
Translation of technical terms not necessary: Technical Education Minister
Technical education minister Deepak Joshi said "They need not write the translated meaning of technical terms. They can write the English term in Hindi. The objective is to help students who are weak in English".
"What will be the future of a student studying engineering in Hindi? Which company will hire students who have Hindi-based engineering degree? These are the issues that should have been answered first before taking such a big decision," said Vineet Verma, an engineering aspirant.
Engineering student Nidhi Sharma said, "Who will teach us in Hindi? Our teachers have studied in English. How and where will one find teachers in Hindi? This is a decision taken without proper research.
