Assam’s state Education Minister, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated
that the Assam government will appoint 1,287 teachers for different subjects
within next two months across the state. He stated on Sunday, that the
government has decided to fill the posts which are vacant across various
schools and colleges and that the government will immediately start appointment
process for 13000 teachers in the schools early next year across the state.
During the function, the minister stated, while giving
appointment letters to 73 higher secondary school teachers, that the government
will also appoint 11,000 teachers in primary schools phase-wise. Sarma further
added that the government is discussing with the Center about the issue of
relaxing the norms for 27,000 teachers. The minister also added that about
1,287 subjects teachers will be given appointment letters from the government
within next two months in Assam and that there are many posts vacant in colleges
and universities also and that the government has decided to fill 229 lecturer
posts in the coming one month on high priority.
He further informed about the unfortunate state of schools
and said that there are about 700 higher
secondary schools in the state that do not have principals and are running
without having any head of institution at the moment. Most of the higher
secondary schools, that do not have principals, are being managed by in-charge
principals. But the government has decided to appoint full-time principals in
all the higher secondary schools in the coming month, based on requirements to
ensure smooth functioning of administration and teaching. This,
however, seems to be the state in government schools and colleges across the
nation, where there is a huge dearth of quality teachers and principals.
