Madras HC on Tuesday, sough a reply from the Tamil Nadu state government over the steps it took to prevent the tragedies related to the NEET 2017 exam. The court sought the reply from the state because a 17 year old medical aspirant, Anitha, committed suicide for not exempting the Tamil Nadu from the government.
On August 24, Justice N Kirubakaran directed the state to provide the counseling for the students and parents whose wards could not clear the NEET exam. The court also asked the prominent personalities to come forward and prevent the failing candidates from taking extreme steps like suicide.
The state was also given orders to set up coaching centers in the rural areas to provide coaching for the NEET entrance test.
Anitha, the medical aspirant who committed suicide was a daughter of a daily wage earner who hanged herself in her house because Tamil Nadu was not exempted from the NEET. Since her suicide there have been many protests by the students and lawyers to scrap the NEET exam.
