The convocation of the Punjab University PhD students will be held on Saturday.
Interestingly there are two third girl students in the university. There are students from all over the country as well as some foreign countries in the university.
Coming from 12 different states, 2 UTs and 3 international students from Iran, Iraq and Thailand, a total of 282 students will be awarded with their degrees.
Also out of the 282 PhD degrees, 208 will be awarded to girls. Only 74 boys will get their PhD Degrees.
69 girls and 25 boys from the science stream and 35 girls and 15 boys from the arts stream will be awarded the PhD degrees. Also 13 biomedical sciences degrees will be all taken by women.
Parvinder Singh, PU's Controller of Examinations told that 512 other degrees will be given. The girl-boy ratio is being computed for these degrees as well.
The highest numbers of scholars are from Punjab with 103 followed by 82 from Haryana and 47 from Chandigarh itself.
Last year a total of 244 students got their PhD Degrees. Even last year the number of girls receiving degrees with a figure of 149 was more than the number of boys with 95.
