There's a great news for students with special needs.
Recently, state government announced that students with special needs will now
get concessions in academics and examinations who are studying in classes 1 to
9 as well as in Class 11 in Maharashtra.
The recent report states that now students of class 10 and
12 with special needs can avail writers of old age with prior permission of
schools unlike previously, where only students with special needs of classes 10
and 12 were considered for concessions in board examinations.
It is for the first time that education department of the
country will provide old writers for students with special needs appearing for
the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate.
These suggestions were provided by the state government
committee of experts in October, 2015.
According to education minister, Vinod Tawde, in order to
bring students with special needs with par with other students, this move was
brought upon. They should be treated equally and helped so that they can
develop, that's why not just SSC and HSC students with special needs are given
revised concessions, but also students with special needs from classes 1 to 9
are to get benefits.
As per, G.K. Mhamane, Chairman, Maharashtra State Board of
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, they worked with experts to consider
these revised concessions for students with special needs. It will be welcomed
by both parents and students as now SSC and HSC students will be allowed to
take writers of older age who should not be their relatives. Also, those from
classes 1 to 9 and Class 11 will also benefit from the concessions.
