Modern technology might be harmful for your kids, as an
electronic toy that flashes light or talks is not good as a wooden toy,
confirmed a research. It further stated that a book will also be helpful for
young ones providing mental stimulation.
Playing with books or traditional toys like wooden puzzle, a
shape-sorter and a set of rubber blocks is much better than playing with
electronic toys which produce lights or songs. This is because electronics decrease
quality and quantity of language said the study published in JAMA Pediatrics.
The study produces facts that playing with toys is better as
this provides for better interaction between parents and children unlike iPads which are stated to be the best earning tools in this modern era.
Dr Anna V Sosa of Northern Arizona University conducted this
study between 26 parent-infant pairs; the children were 10 to 16 months
old. They were given three different
types of toys like: electronic toys (a baby laptop, a talking farm and a baby
cell phone); traditional toys (chunky wooden puzzle, shape-sorter and rubber
blocks with pictures); and five board books with farm animal, shape or color
themes.
A press release stated the results of this study that while
playing with electronic stuff, children said fewer words and fewer parental
responses. While playing with wooden toys, children said more content specific words;
they had conversation with their parents as well.
So, the end results proved that book reading with young kids has
potential benefits.
An editorial in the
journal explained that ``conversational turns during play do more than teach
children language. They lay the groundwork for literacy skills, teach
role-playing, give parents a window into their child's developmental stage and
struggles, and teach social skills such as turn-taking and accepting others'
leads.''
