In order to compensate for the 1600 answer sheets misplaced by the University of Mumbai, the university has decided to allot bonus marks to all the 1600 students.
The decision to allot bonus marks was taken in the meeting of Board of Examination (BoE) on Thursday. In the meeting, the board also decided to continue with the MeritTrac, which is the university's current IT partner for the on-screen marking (OSM)- the new assessment system for the university.
The new assessment system adopted by the university is one of the main reasons for the delay in the results of the undergraduate courses. The university decided to continue with the current IT partner because the contract was signed for the period of one year.
For the missing papers, it was being speculated that the university may give students equal to the average marks scored by them in other subjects. However, a member of BoE said that any final decision regarding the marks will be taken on Tuesday.
The university is unable to track the missing papers because they have been uploaded in the basket of papers and these misplaced papers are the last of the hurdles which are preventing the university from declaring the results of the students. Most of the misplace papers are from the commerce stream.
