The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) is the first Indian Energy University recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and the first of its kind pan Asia. It is the first to be accredited by the Energy Institute, UK. It is the pioneer in imparting education in 47 specialized programs across India's core lifeline sectors like Oil & Gas, Power, Transportation, Infrastructure and Logistics and Supply Chain sectors, UPES is the 1st institution to set up an in-house Bio-Diesel Laboratory.
The UPES campus is a sprawling 30 acres land situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, Pondha Valley. The institution produces ready to employ managers by providing a comprehensive training. Students benefit through state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities such as the 'Living Labs', a technical lab where students bring their innovative ideas to life.
Excelling academic curriculum has made UPES not only the "Institution of Choice" for students but also for the corporate companies in the energy and core sectors. 450 students have already been placed for the year 2012 with an average pay package of Rs. 5.40 lakhs and highest being Rs. 9.65 lakhs. UPES has a consistent track record of 80% and above placements right from its inception. More than 3500 students have passed through its different portals and are today enjoying key roles in their chosen sectors.
If there is a set process for students' admissions, there is one for faculty too. UPES adopts a unique approach in its selection and recruitment of faculty. Apart from academic credentials, the teaching staff is required to be initiative and innovation driven. This forms an integral part of teacher-student relationship at UPES.
The UPES pedagogy comprises of continuous student-faculty interaction, focused industry visits, summer internships, industry based dissertations and innovative project work.
Admission to UPES includes UPES-MET, the entrance exam for admissions to the university, followed by a GDPI. However, candidates with a pre-decided minimum percentile in their CAT/ GMAT/ MAT or AICTE's CMAT can directly appear for the GDPI.
Marking the valuable contribution that UPES MBA students are making to the various core sector industries, UPES is now set to introduce BBA programs.
"There is a middle-middle segment or lower-middle segment of aspirants who may not be able to afford the full MBA program but they have the aspiration for business studies. They are willing to have some business skills and work experience before going for an MBA. As India is getting more urbanized with a higher level of disposable income, BBA comes as a very important course," Dr Parag Diwan, founder of UPES.
The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is the first Indian university to implement SAP for its operations. The institution has created a value system to educate its students in a manner to groom them into industry ready individuals with an overall learning.
