Inaugurated by The Union Public Service
Commission (UPSC) Chairperson Alka Sirohi, UPSC has now opened its own public
museum in New Delhi to showcase the history, development and growth of administration
in India. Open from 10 am to 2 pm (Monday to Saturday), the museum has no entry
fee.
Sirohi states that the museum exhibits rare
reports, files, photographs, pamphlets, maps and details of examinations
conducted during pre-to-post independence period to select the country's
bureaucrats. This, she hopes, will be a special experience for students of
history and candidates appearing for the various examinations conducted by the
commission.
Hoping to attract the interests of a wide
variety of people the museum possesses a rich treasure of archival material and
records dating from the day of its founding in 1916 up to 2015. Currently, 147
such articles have been displayed in the museum on a rotational basis.
The museum also houses books authored by
bureaucrats, mementos received from different organisations and panels showing
lists of the toppers of civil services examination, engineering services
examination, Indian Forest Services examination, Indian Statistical Services
examination, Geologist examination, and Combined Defence Services examination
over the years. Currently, the main objects that have
been put on display are pamphlets of the civil service of India, 1916 and 1918
examination, Indian Imperial Police Service Examination, 1926, Combined
Competitive Examination 1938 and pamphlets of various other examinations.
A press release issued today by Personnel
Ministry stated that the museum is equipped with e-kiosks of state-of-the-art
technology to digitally display the documents of archival value. Braille Panels
also have been fixed to facilitate the visually impaired during the visit
around the museum.
