UST Global, an information technology solutions and services company for Global 1000 enterprises, announced its launch of "Step IT Up America" an ambitious program in response to STEM efforts across America. The first phase of the program will target 1,000 inner-city women from minority communities in ten of the nation's largest cities. The long term goal is to provide 5,000 women with technology education by 2020.
"We are excited to launch this initiative for women from underserved communities with critical knowledge that will enable them to compete in these challenging times"
The first of its kind, this program will target women who have displayed the commitment to education by attending a community college. The curriculum is designed to provide fundamental education required to secure a technology job in today's world. Students will be trained in advanced visualization, mobility, quality assurance, and other relevant technology modules. Post training, UST Global is committed to finding jobs for participants at partner organizations across the country.
"We are excited to launch this initiative for women from underserved communities with critical knowledge that will enable them to compete in these challenging times," said Sajan Pillai, CEO of UST Global. "The American workforce has been falling behind due to limited access to STEM education which has resulted in a limited number of American employees available to fill technology positions. This unique program will help us address this challenge by adding to the qualified pool of talent well positioned to fill technology jobs that are currently available. This is a win-win for Americans, American enterprises and the economy."
The Step IT Up America program was launched on Tuesday, November 19th, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. Keynote speakers at the launch were Carlos Gutierrez, Vice Chair of Albright Stonebridge Group & Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Willie L. Brown Jr. Former Mayor of San Francisco, Judge Glenda A. Hatchett, Founder and CEO of Great Day Productions, Edie Fraser, CEO of STEMconnector & Senior Consultant to Diversified Search, Darryl Harvey, Manager for Global Diversity & Employee Rights for The Boeing Company and Linda Young, President of the National Women's Political Caucus.
