Virtusa Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTU), a global IT services company that offers a broad range of information technology services, including IT consulting, technology implementation and application outsourcing services, today donated writing materials and note books to over 300 students in the cyclone hit village of Anna Gramam in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, through "Pen Your Future" program . A group of volunteers from the Virtusa's Advanced Technology Center at Chennai visited Anna Gramam Higher Secondary School, where they handed over the writing materials to the students.
Due to the destruction caused by Cyclone Thane in Cuddalore district in December 2011, many students from Class X and XII, who are facing their board exams, are without the basic necessities of writing materials and books. With a focus to help their education back on track, Virtusa took the initiative to provide these basic necessities to 225 Standard X students and 75 Standard XII students at Anna Gramam Higher Secondary School.
Virtusa chose Anna Gramam Higher Secondary School as it is the only higher secondary school for 20 villages in the district. Speaking on the occasion, Muralidharan Neelameghan, Director - Delivery, Virtusa said, "The cyclone caused a lot of devastation and as a socially responsible organization, we looked for an opportunity to help. We found that there were so many students who were getting ready for their board exams but did not have even writing materials. Sometimes the smallest things like pens and note books can make a huge difference. We from Virtusa wish to help the students pen their future."
"At Virtusa, Sustainability is core to our values and culture. We believe this initiative, which is part of our on-going program to reach out to students, will positively impact the students in their educational needs and pursuits." said Ramesh Kannan, Director-HR at Virtusa Corporation.
Some of Virtusa's Sustainability Initiatives over the years include -
