While studying in the IIT is a dream for lakhs of students across the country, only a handful of the students actually manage to fulfill this dream and get the education they dream about. But the HRD ministry is out to change it all.
If the things go to the plan, the students across the nation would be able to witness a live telecast of the lectures given at the top 6 IITs in the country along with a number of other well known institutes. These lectures would be streamed live on the 32 DTH channels that the HRD Ministry is planning to launch.
As per the request from the HRD ministry, the department of Science has allotted a couple of transponders on a GSAT satellite to used for this project. As per a senior official, "The government is focusing on using space technology to expand the reach of high quality education. Through the 32 DTH channels the aim is to ensure that live classrooms can be transmitted from ten 'Teaching Ends' out of which six will be IITs located in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Guwahati,"
Live lectures from more than 12 top quality institutes will make their way directly into the homes of the students. The official also said thattThese channels will be freely available on Doordarshan's Free Dish DTH platform and all that the students will need is a Set Top Box to receive them. The scheme could take off in a couple of months from now.
