Today, Wipro Ltd. (NYSE:WIT), a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company announced the launch of its new program 'WiSTA "“ Data Scientist' in India. WiSTA- Data Scientist is an integrated post graduate program in Analytics for the 2014 batch of engineering and Science graduates hired by Wipro as full-time employees. The program will be conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) which will award the Master of Technology and Master of Science degrees in analytics.
Today's era of globalization and technological innovation calls for organizations to use analytical insights to make informed business decisions. Statistics suggest that companies in the United States alone face a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 employees with deep analytical skills. The US also requires 1.5 million managers and analysts who can analyze huge amounts of data and use those findings to make decisions.
The WiSTA "“ Data Scientist program aims to create an industry ready cadre of Data Scientists within Wipro in the segment of information management and analytics. These Data Scientists will collaborate with Wipro's customers in the US and numerous other international locations.

This course is structured as a two year program for the engineering graduates and a four year program for the Science graduates. The course is taught over weekends at Wipro's corporate headquarters in Bangalore and it comprises of various modules on analytics. A student's past academic record and college ranking form the criteria for selection for this course. Wipro and VIT have joined hands to compile the course content which also includes modules prescribed and taught by professors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and University of Michigan. On completion of this course, the students will not only be awarded a Masters' degree from VIT but they would also receive program completion certificates from MIT and the University of Michigan for the modules covered by them.
