UPSC Geologist Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year. It is conducted for the recruitment of geologists in Central Government organizations. This exam is conducted by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India. It is usually conducted in the month of December.
Geologist entrance examination is conducted to recruit two categories of geologists. Category-1 belongs to posts in the Geological survey of India. This category is meant for the position of Junior Geologists. The second category namely, Category-II is meant for positions in the Central Ground Water Board and Ministry of Water Resources. The positions recruited through this UPSC exam are junior hydro geologists and assistant hydro geologists.
Age: From 21 to 32 years
1. Geologists grade 'A' in Geological survey of India: PG in Applied, Engineering, or Marine Geology.
2. Geophysicists Gr. A: M.Sc. in Applied Physics, Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, etc.
3. Chemists Gr. A: M.Sc. in Chemistry/applied chemistry
4. Junior Hydrogeologists: Master's degree in applied Geology/Hydrogeology
Part I: - Written Examination
Candidates competing for both categories have to appear in the following papers
(i) General English - 100 Marks - 3 hrs
(ii) Geology Paper-I - 200 Marks - 3 hrs
(iii) Geology Paper-II - 200 Marks - 3 hrs
(iv) Geology Paper-III - 200 Marks - 3 hrs
(v) Hydrogeology - 200 Marks - 3 hrs
For Category I candidates have to appear in Papers (i) to (iv) above only and for Category II in Papers (i) to (iii) and (v) above only.
Part II: Interview for Personality Test - 200 Marks

2.Candidates will required to complete the online application form containing two stages viz Part I and Part II as per the instructions available in the above mentioned site.
3.The candidates are requires to pay a fee of Rs 200/- (excepting SC/ST/PH/Female candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using any Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.
4.Before start filling up of online application, candidates must have his/her photograph and signature duly scanned in the jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 40KB and must not less than 3 KB in Size for the photograph and 1 KB for the signature.
5.The applicants must ensure that while filling their application form, they are providing their valid and active E-Mail IDs as the Commission may use electric mode of communication while containing them different stages of examination process.
