Introduction to Hippocabs
In the present scenario when people usually prefer for luxurious life, travelling in an overcrowded bus is quite difficult and hiring a taxi or cab might charge you a lot. Also, a bus will take more time than a private taxi, then there exists a solution to it, a cab service known as "HippoCabs"Ã founded by Mr. Sagar Agarwal and Mr. Sahil Agarwal, for which you have to pay only for one side of the journey and it seems to be a giant size idea.ÃÂ
"Normally, travel agents or cab services like Ola charge for both sides of the journey eve, if you want to travel for single side, while HippoCabs charge for one sided journey" said Sagar Agarwal, co- founder of Hippo Cabs.
HippoCabs is an intercity cab service unlike Ola, Uber, taxi4sure etc.- the intra city cabs; also they charge just for one way journey which they find is the biggest challenge as it is very difficult to find passengers for the second round trip of the journey. Currently, they ask their travel partners to arrange customers, but this is not a scalable solution. So now Mr. Sagar Agarwal and Mr. Sahil Agarwal founders of Hippo Cabs found a solution for this and said,
"We have created a marketplace for travel agents to help them find customers for their return cabs"Ã.
At the present HippoCabs service is working on 11 routes and covering cities like Jaipur, Delhi-NCR, Ajmer, Udaipur and Jodhpur and in future they are going to cover more routes like Jaipur-Agra, Mumbai-Pune etc.
History behind HippoCabs
Before Hippo Cabs, the two guys invested their brains in a startup called as Trekkingtoes which was a pretty interesting concept. For this startup only Sahil took a break from his education and returned back to India from Germany. But due to some problems, he lost his interest in TrekkingToes and started Hippocabs, Sahil added that "for a startup you need to be excited, it should come from within; you cannot force yourself to run a startup"
The Money making Scheme
Sahil told us, "if we talk about money, we at Hippocabs charge almost half of other cab services, for example let's say you want to travel from point A to point B then other cab drivers may charge you Rs. 100 for return but we charge you only Rs. 60 for one side.And yes we are profitable, we are generating good revenue. On asking about funding he added that we do have some inbound interests form investors but currently we are not looking to raise funds, we are focused on developing our products, defining processes, automating tasks and getting more traction. Once we feel we are ready, we will pitch to investors."
Ideas of Sahil for Youngsters
When we asked him his views on having startup Sahil numbly said, "Nothing is easy and certainly entrepreneurship is a lonely journey, but yes, there are advantages of having a startup.You can choose what you want to do,you get to explore a lot of things. As a founder you have to wear multiple hats and do whatever it take to make your company a success starting from marketing to operations to product development to managing finances.There are times when I even have to clean my office but I think is a part of the game. You can either have a startup and fulfill your dreams or join join somebody else to help them fulfill theirs".
Sahil believes that, education plays a vital role in our life as without education you cannot have a sense and education also broadens your mind. He said "when I completed my high school, I thought I knew everything, but then when I entered college I realized I was wrong. Now whenever I get a similar feeling, I reflect back and figure out that I was wrong every time I thought I know everything. Education is a continuous process and you learn something every day".
